Denise: Hello listeners. And thanks for joining. I want to welcome you to today's episode,D's healthy tips. How many of you have ever had an injury? Raise your hand. Okay. Both of my hands are raised. And unfortunately, a lot of my clients would have both their hands raised because most people, when they come to see me, they've been dealing with an injury and they're finding or trying to find a way to heal and recover.

What I have found in my bodywork practice is expectations are the biggest hinder in this process. E X, P E C T Ations. That's why I've dedicated an episode to that in regards to injury recovery. So I want to help you, if you are dealing with an injury or may come up with one in the future, how can we mentally handle the situation so we can get through it as smoothly as.

These are the seven healthy tips for my mental guide that will save your hide for injury recovery.

The first step is accept your situation. A C C E P T. Make peace with and where you are in this moment, because just like in life, this too shall pass. But if you want to get a better direction, you need to accept where you are now first, before you can take the best action.

Look, I get it. Acceptance can be a tough one for a lot of us, but that is exactly why I made it. Number one, if we can go through this, then we can follow in the next six steps.

Number two for injury recovery is get help. Mayday, Mayday. No, I'm not talking about web MD. I'm talking about seeking a medical professional and or specialist who deals with your situation.

You will need expert care. Another thing you want to do is ask for support from your loved ones. Remember, this is a very humbling experience and we shouldn't have to go through it alone.

Number three and one of my favorites, you guessed it advocate for yourself. Oh man. If this show hasn't told you anything, it's about advocating for yourself.

So what do I mean. Don't go in blind. When speaking with a medical professional or specialists, ask a lot of questions, obtain information and make sure your concerns are met. This will help shape more realistic expectations of the recovery process. I cannot stress this enough.

Number four, do your part. If certain things are recommended for an ideal recovery, try to adhere to those guidelines as best as you can.And always, always be kind to yourself.

Number five, celebrate baby steps. Come. Track your progress to limit frustrations. I know it's easy to say to ourselves, be patient it's like telling someone else to relax and then they tense up. My recommendation is to track your progress and acknowledge the tiniest achievement focusing on that will make it feel less of an uphill battle and give you the Gusto to continue.

Number six, check your gut, check yourself before you wreck yourself, check yourself before you wreck yourself. Yes. Check in with yourself. Do you trust your professional and or the process thus far? If so, continuing onward. If not re-assess, do you need to adjust the treatment? Do you need to see a different professional or get a second opinion?

What I firmly believe is you are the expert of your body and they are the expert of their craft. The goal is to always meet in the middle last but not least.

Step number seven, gratitude. Be thankful for what you currently have and put your attention on things you can still do to bring you comfort, ease, and fulfillment.

Honestly, those little things are going to go a long way and we'll help you reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

There, you have it, the seven steps of the mental guide of injury recovery.

I hope you've enjoyed this episode of D's healthy tips. And before we go, I love for you to dance with me.
